Player Eligibility
The age of the player on May 1 of the playing season is considered the league-eligible playing age.
Grade Exception Rule
PSO has a "grade exception" rule in effect which allows kids to play "down," even though they are considered league-age eligible to play in the next division up. As long as they are still in the same grade as those playing in the league down they are allowed to play with their classmates. Players playing down must get permission from the league approving them to pitch prior to the season. Proof of grade must be submitted for approval by the league leadership of PSO to allow older players to play down with their classmates. Apart from the grade exception rule, the only circumstance where a player can possibly play down is for physical or health reasons, and that must be documented by a doctor and submitted to the league for approval.

New for 2023: Modified Leadoff & Stealing Rule
The purpose of the Modified Leadoff and Stealing Rule is to introduce it to the runners and make the game as realistic as possible to the real game of baseball instead of the run-a-thon rules most leagues allowed where the runner is standing on 3rd base easily within 2 pitches. This rule allows the pitchers to continue in their development of mechanics and learning to throw strikes without their focus being on the base runners. It also puts a premium on the catchers being able to catch the ball. Runners who are typically able to steal bases will still do so at a normal rate, but there’s still the element of being thrown out if the catcher makes a good throw. Runners who are slower have a higher percentage of being thrown out which is true in a realistic baseball game. This rule has been through a trial period during our fall league and well received by the coaches.
- 9/10 Baseball and 11-12 Baseball: Runners are allowed to leadoff and take reasonable secondary leads.
- Runners can be picked off by either the pitcher or the catcher and are allowed to advance at their own risk on an errant pickoff attempt
- Runners can’t attempt to steal until the ball passes the plate OR there’s a passed ball or wild pitch
*Team Fee Option - The Coach may pay the team fee upfront and lock the roster to the players invited by the coach. PSO reserves the right to assign pool players to open rosters as needed. To process a team registration please contact Gail Mixon at [email protected]
