PSO leagues strive to make every child a champion. Therefore, PSO coaches are led to encourage, motivate, and build each child’s self-esteem as well as his or her athletic ability.
Mandatory Coach/Volunteer Screening Process
HEAD COACHES: Must register online each season in sports connect (registration is free). Please read through the directions below (Steps for Head Coaches to Register in Sports Connect to Create Your Team and Invite Players) on how to register. This process will register you as the head coach and will sign up your team. Assistant coaches no longer need to register in Sports Connect. Those coaching more than one team must select all divisions in which they are coaching and list all teams during the registration process.
ALL HEAD COACHES, ASSISTANT COACHES and TEAM MANAGERS - You must click this link for Touchpoint background screening:
https://touchpoint.prestonwood.org/OnlineReg/41562
After you fill out the form, you will be contacted by Prestonwood with details to complete your background check or ministry safe training if anything else is required.
At Prestonwood Baptist Church, we are committed to creating a safe environment, free from abuse of any kind. Therefore, we require all staff members and volunteers to be approved through a two-step process:
- Background check (annual requirement)
- Ministry Safe Sexual Abuse Awareness Training (required every two years)
The volunteer screening process requires each volunteer to complete the Ministry Safe Sexual Abuse Awareness Training. This training is required every two years and includes video sessions followed by a 25-question quiz. This training is good for all sports and ministries of our church for two years. After you register as a coach, if this training is not current or you are a new coach, you will receive an e-mail from Prestonwood that will include a link to the training.

- Click on "Coach Sign Up" above, and then click on "Volunteer Now."
- Select the division(s) in which you want to coach. If you coach more than one team, please select all the divisions that apply, and then click "Continue" at the bottom of the page.
- Select yourself to be the head coach.
- Enter your remaining information. This is where you will enter your team name.
- Your team page is created! Go to your team page and click on the "Roster" tab. Then click on the "Manage Roster Invites" button. From here you can invite players to your team by entering their e-mail address. This page also tells you how many players have joined your team and what the minimum and maximum players per team are. Plus, the team code is on this page. You can pass out this code to anyone you would like to join your team. When you enter e-mail addresses on this page, each e-mail will already include the team code. Please tell your parents not to pass out the team code to invite others. Only you should invite players to your team. They should send friends that they want on the team to you.

Mandatory Coach Meeting and Coach Clinic
All head coaches are required to attend our mandatory coaches’ meeting at the beginning of each season. Assistant coaches are welcome to participate. Go to the Key Dates for the most current coaches’ meeting dates and time.
During this meeting, you will be able reserve a PSO soccer field to practice, if you have already completed your mandatory volunteer background and Ministry Safe screening. The scheduling of practice space is done on a first-come, first-served basis. PSO does not guarantee space, so you may need to secure your own practice space elsewhere.
Value Lessons
Weekly value lessons will be done each week at practice. (Click on the link at the end of this section.) Coaches are responsible for presenting the lesson to their teams each week.

Communication Policy for Soccer League Concerns
To ensure clear and effective communication, only head coaches are permitted to contact the PSO Soccer Director regarding any concerns or issues related to games, refereeing, or league matters. Parents with questions or concerns should address them directly with their team’s head coach, who can then escalate the matter if necessary. This policy helps streamline communication and allows the league to address concerns in an organized and efficient manner.
Coach Referee Evaluation Form
Head coaches only may fill out the referee evaluation form. This is for constructive feedback and positive comments only.
