PSO exists to share the life changing message of the gospel of Jesus Christ through the vehicle of youth football. Our desire is that youth football players from across the Metroplex would have an opportunity to know Christ personally, learn to play football the right way, and learn valuable life lessons that can be taught through youth sports.  The Gospel will be shared at our football clinic and an invitation will be extended to any child or adult wishing to receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

In order to accomplish the mission referred to above, PSO offers several youth football leagues from flag football for younger children to full contact, tackle football for older children.

New Team Application

Teams that have never played in PSO before need to fill out a New Team Application and email it to Tony Lewandowski at tlewandowski@prestonwood.org.  Please make sure you read all of the information below.

Division Determination

PSO Football divisions are grade based with a maximum age limit. Therefore, players must meet the grade requirement and not exceed the maximum age limit for that division. Division eligibility is determined by a child's grade for the upcoming school year. The player's age is determined as of September 1st of the current calendar year. The player may not exceed the age limit for their division in order to play in the current grade.

Age Determining Dates for 2017-2018 School Year

Players must play in the division of their current grade unless they are approved by the league to play up a grade level.  Players are NOT allowed to play down a grade.  The age determining dates are only used to determine if a player is too old to play with his or her grade and must play up a grade division.  The following chart offers a quick reference for determining player eligibility.  Players who do not meet the division criteria for eligibility are not eligible to participate in that division and must play up.  There is no appeal available to the parents nor opportunity for board review.  When two grades are combined to form one division, the higher (older) grade is used for age determination.

Player Participation

Many of our players are new, first-time football players in each age group. All players are required to start on offense or defense and play a minimum of half the game, through three quarters. The season begins the first Saturday after Labor Day and ends before Thanksgiving, with the exception of games rescheduled due to inclement weather.

Player Weights

No child is excluded because of weight. Parents often fear that larger players might fall on a smaller player and cause injury. Football is one of the safest children's team sports. Few serious injuries ever occur and every effort is made to protect children. All players must be weighed by August 25th by PSO staff and this will be their playing weight for the season. The ball carrier weight in tackle leagues cannot exceed:

Coaches

PSO football is about kids, but coaches make the positive difference. All coaches are required to complete a comprehensive certification process which includes a criminal background check. All Head Coaches are also required to attend our mandatory coaches meeting at the beginning of each season. All coaches are required to be certified by USA Football, to ensure that your child is getting the most up to date football safety measures. Coaches must register through our online registration system. When registering your child for the league there is an option to select that you would like to coach. If you did not select that option or are a coach not registering a child, please click HERE to begin the coach registration process.

Officials

We utilize great officials who love children. Our officials are members in good standing with the Texas Association of Sports Officials (TASO) and most work 5A and 6A High School games on Friday nights.

Player Certification

A copy of a state certified birth certificate is required for all players. This certificate should be turned in to the Head Coach by the Certification Date listed on the Key Dates Page.

Game Days

Most games are played on Saturdays, but can be played on weekday evenings. (Head coaches determine practice times and locations.)

Equipment

PSO is committed to providing the safest possible playing environment for your child. We have a preferred provider relationship with Frisco Sports Center located on the corner of Preston and Park for parents to directly purchase equipment at a price below market. All equipment will be inspected for minimum safety requirements prior to games.

Pre-Season NFL Heads Up Football Camp

At the beginning of the season we will have a one or two day football camp for each division. The cost of this camp is included in the registration fee. All teams must attend to be eligible for post season play. More details will be posted soon.

League Fees

PSO league fees do not include the cost of a uniform or equipment in the tackle league.  Flag and 7 on 7 fees include equipment provided by USA Flag Football.  Check with your coach for additional details on what is needed for your league.
