2 Timothy 2:5 says, “If anyone competes as an athlete, he does not receive the victor’s crown unless he competes according to the rules.” The rules for our lunch hour basketball are posted below and on the sign-up board. They are designed to promote fair play for anyone who wishes to participate. Let’s make sure that we are following these rules so that we can create and maintain an atmosphere that will promote our mission.
WHEN SIGNING UP ON THE BOARD: WRITE YOUR OWN NAME ONLY. DO NOT WRITE DOWN NAMES OF PLAYERS WHO HAVE NOT YET ARRIVED.
These rules go into effect when there are 10 players ready to play. Games with less than 10 players (i.e. 4 on 4) do not count as games for rotation purposes.
First game play to 15 (score by 1’s and 2’s). All other games play to 12.
Winning team stays and the losing team shoots for open spots to play with subs.
If additional players arrive during a game to where there are now more than 12 players, the winning team stays after that game, the losing team signs back up on the board and rotation continues as described below with all games being played to 12 points.
For the first 5 on 5 game only:
Play to 15 (score by 1’s and 2’s)
Winning team stays and the losing team must sign back up.
The rest of the time:
Play to 12 (score by 1’s and 2’s)
Every team stays on court for 2 full games
Then players sign back up on the board (player must sign own name—no groups)
Additional Courts:
When 10 players are waiting to play they must begin a game on another court if it is available:
The next 5 MUST play on the first available court.
Any player choosing not to play on the court that is available MUST move his or her name to the bottom of the list. Names can only be moved once.
When there are not enough players to continue on the additional court, all players must sign back up for the original court. The 5 players who did not get their 2nd game get to sign up first.
The purpose of our Lunch Hour Basketball is to provide a time of recreation for any adult, regardless of his or her talent, and a time of encouragement through our “2-Minute Drill.”
Be ready to play with no “down time” between games.
“Cherry picking” is not allowed.
Defense cannot call for the ball from the offense in a way to intentionally deceive the offense into thinking they are on the same team.
Call your own fouls (2 players involved in the play) & honor the call. If a player calls a foul you must honor it. Call it when it happens and loud enough for all to hear. If fouled in the act of shooting and the ball goes in, count the points and play continues.
