PSO offers several youth football leagues from flag football for younger children to full contact tackle football for older children. The different leagues are discussed below.

Flag League
Players are assigned to requested teams if space is available, otherwise they are assigned by zip code.

5-6 Year Olds
In the Flag League, emphasis is on skills, fun and positive competitive values. No score is kept and there will be no more than two practices a week. Each player receives a post season award.

7 Year Olds
7 year olds can play in this flag league or the tackle league.  In the Flag League, emphasis is on skills, fun and positive competitive values. No score is kept and there will be no more than two practices a week. Each player receives a post season award.

Tackle Leagues

7-9 Year Olds

As players begin contact, emphasis is placed on appropriate techniques. Coaches are on the field with players during games. Players are assigned to requested teams with coach approval, by zip code or need.

10-12 Year Olds
More advanced skills are taught each year. New players are drafted by existing teams after a draft evaluation.

Player Participation
All players are required to start on offense or defense and play a minimum of half the game, through three quarters. Many of our players are new, first-time football players in each age group. The season begins after Labor Day and ends before Thanksgiving.

Player Weights
No child is excluded because of weight. Parents often fear that larger players might fall on a smaller player and cause injury. Football is one of the safest children's team sports. Few serious injuries ever occur and every effort is made to protect children. The ball carrier in tackle leagues cannot exceed:

7 year olds 85 lbs.
8 year olds 90 lbs.
9 year olds 110 lbs.
10 year olds 115 lbs.
11-12 year olds 135 lbs.

Coaches
PSO football is about kids, but coaches make the positive difference. Coaches are required to complete a comprehensive certification process.

Officials
We utilize great officials who love children. Our officials are certified.

Player Certification
A copy of a state certified birth certificate is required for all players. This certificate should accompany registration.

Age Determination
Age eligibility is determined by a child's age as of June 1, 2008. Whatever his age is on that date determines his playing age, and he must play in that league.

Game Days
Most games are played on Saturdays, but can be played on weekday evenings. Head coaches determine practice times and locations. A minimum of eight games in tackle leagues is the PSO goal (weather dependent).

Equipment
PSO leases to each player in tackle leagues a helmet, shoulder pads, practice jerseys and pants. PSO leases to each player in flag leagues only practice jerseys and pants.  A deposit is required and is returned if all equipment is returned to PSO by December 10th.  Equipment deposit fees are listed below in the League Fees section.  You purchase for your child a mouthpiece, shoes, and a 7-piece pad set. Professional style jerseys are provided to all leagues. Kids 11-12 years old also receive pro-game pants.  Click HERE for equipment check out dates.

Clinic & Draft
One month prior to the first game, PSO holds its clinic and draft. The clinic, another unique benefit of PSO, features area high school coaching staffs, former pros and current and former college players. The clinic teaches fundamental skills and is good for former or new players. The draft occurs immediately after the clinic for new players that are 10-12 years old and unassigned to teams. Players and parents DO NOT stay for the draft, but are contacted and informed of results within 2-3 days.

Post-Season Football Celebrations
At the end of the season, a celebrity speaker shares about his faith and player trophies are given to the coaches for presentation.

League Fees
PSO league fees do NOT include a deposit for the equipment lease. Your credit card information or check will be held in a secure file through the season until equipment is returned. (The deposit does not equal the value of the equipment, so it is vital to the integrity of the program that all equipment be returned.) League fees DO include game jersey cost (and game pants for 11-12 year olds).
