Spirit Squad -> Introduction

Cheerleading Fall 2013

For more information please contact Julie Bishop at jbishop@prestonwood.org.

PSO Cheerleading is open to girls ages 5-12.  This program will focus on instructing girls in basic cheers in an uplifting and encouraging Christ centered environment.

The squads are non-competitive and cheer for PSO football teams on a weekly basis.  Practices take place once or twice a week at locations determined by the coach.  Devotionals will be given weekly by each coach.  Games are played on Saturdays on PSO’s football fields located on the south side of Plano Parkway between Midway and Marsh.

New squads will be formed based on age and the school you attend.  Please note that squad sizes will be limited and not each football team will have a cheer squad.

League Fees:

$60 League Fee Includes:  Registration fee, Saturday Clinic and award.

On-line registrations will be paid by credit card only.  Registration will be open until June 30, 2013.    No late registrations will be guaranteed, due to uniform ordering deadlines.

Uniform Information:

PSO will no longer be providing uniforms.  All uniforms will be ordered directly through the distributor your coach chooses, according to PSO guidelines. Each squad is responsible for ordering and purchasing their uniforms, after they have been approved by Julie Bishop, PSO Cheerleading Director.  Your child will be required to purchase a team uniform.  Each squad can vote to purchase a traditional cheer uniform ($150-$200) or just a basic shorts and t-shirt.  Uniform companies generally do not offer refunds, after you have purchased the uniform if you decide not to participate.  Also, you would be responsible for any additional alterations.

Coaches:

PSO coaches are encouraged to motivate and build each child’s self esteem as well as her athletic ability.  All PSO coaches are required to complete a background check.  Click HERE to download that form.  Please return the completed form to Julie Bishop for processing, be sure to sign PAGE TWO.  If you are interested in coaching a squad, please contact Julie Bishop.  Additional coaches will be needed for new squads.  Coaches must register as a coach through our online registration system.  Please click HERE to begin this free registration.

Game Day/Inclement Weather:

Schedules are based on the football schedule.  If games are cancelled due to field or current weather conditions, the PSO website will be updated with the information.  (www.psosports.com)  Cheerleaders are expected to be at all games that are played.

Please see below from the PSO website, code of ethics:

PSO Code of Support for Parents and Fans

1. I understand that as a participant of PSO Sports, my child is required to attend the Skills Clinic (August 24th at 9:00am to noon) in accordance with our mission statement, there will be a gospel presentation at this event. There are rules in each sport that prevent a team from advancing to the post-season tournament if players from that team do not attend the entire event. Please check with your league commissioner for the sport-specific rules on this. I understand that my team does not have the right to play in the post-season tournament but that it is a bonus to the season based on league rules.
