Youth Basketball -> Introduction

Registration Begins September 1st each year.  Registration deadline is in mid October.  See FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page for more details.

PSO offers youth basketball for boys and girls, ages 4-12. We offer two different leagues, which are discussed below, and a select club called Panthers.  For more details about the differences in our two leagues, please click on Upward FAQ or Mavs FAQ.

Boys & Girls, Ages 8-11

Boys & Girls, PreK-6th Grade

Your child should play in the Maverick League if he or she wants a more traditional game of basketball. We will utilize the full court, use certified referees, utilize regulation goal heights, keep scores, provide standings and in general present a situation that could involve competitive pressure. Available to children ages 8 to 11, this is not for every child and enrollment may be limited. Some players will come in on a pre-existing team while others will come individually. We encourage both and strive to create a balanced and highly competitive league. As a result, every new child for this season (regardless if they are on a pre-existing team) will be required to participate in our evaluation period.

Upward Basketball is a national program that has grown from 64 locations in 1996 to over 1000 this year. No pre-established teams enter this league. Players sign up as individuals and are placed on teams according to height and ability. Every effort is made for equal competition through balanced teams. Every player plays equal time and will have the opportunity to start several games. To increase success, younger players play on shorter goals with smaller balls. To reduce unneeded pressure, no score is kept until third grade.
