2010 Spring Adult Basketball League

Registration ends February 26, 2010
(See below for registration details.)

We will have both men's and women's adult basketball leagues as follows:

Leagues

  • Men's 18+ Competitive Division - Monday and/or Friday evenings
  • Men's 19+ Rec Division - Monday and/or Tuesday evenings
  • Men's 39+ Division - Tuesday evenings
  • Women's Division - Thursday evenings
  • End-of-Season Tournament games may be played on any week night or weekend

League Features

      Men's 19+ Rec Division, Men's 39+ Division, Women's Division

  • A positive playing environment

  • Every player signs up as an individual so that all teams are evenly matched

  • You can pick one playing partner by listing that person as your preferred coach on the online registration form. That person MUST also list you when they register.

  • You don't have to have super-star talent to get playing time (every player is guaranteed to play at least half of each game)

  • Separate leagues for men and women

  • One practice before season begins.  The practice will be held on your regular game night the week of March 1st.  We will play pickup games and adjust teams (no officials provided).

  • All season long you can find all of your league Standings, Scores, Schedules, Bulletins, and other information on our website at: www.psosports.com

     Men's 18+ Competitive Division

  • A positive playing environment

  • Preformed teams are allowed as long as you have a minimum of 7 players on that team.

  • Every player signs up and pays as an individual and lists their team captain's name during registration.

  • Individuals that sign up but don't have a team will be placed on a waiting list.  If no teams are available then these players will be placed on teams in the Rec Division.

  • Team captain must provide Brad Freeman at PSO with a team name.

  • All season long you can find all of your league Standings, Scores, Schedules, Bulletins, and other information on our website at: www.psosports.com

Game Uniforms

  • All players will receive a reversible mesh jersey at no additional cost.

  • Make sure that you have marked the correct jersey size on the online registration.  If your jersey size is not listed, please put that information in the "Preferred Coach / Comments" box.

  • If you have already registered and want to check the size that you have selected, follow these instructions:  On the PSO web page, click on "My Account" on the left hand side of the screen.  Then click on "Access My Account."  Next, click on "Manage Players."  Your name should be listed along with any children that you have registered in one of our leagues.  If your name is not listed, click on "Add a New Player" and fill out all of the information.  If your name is listed, click on your name and then select the correct jersey size at the bottom.

Season Schedule

  • Team practice for non-competitive leagues begins the week of March 1st.
  • Season starts the week of March 8th for each league.
  • Season includes an 8-week regular season of 1 game per week at 6:00, 7:00, 8:00 or 9:00 pm (these times may change depending on the number of teams).
  • Every team is included in the post-season single elimination playoffs.  Playoff games may be scheduled on any day of the week other than Wednesday in order to get all of the games played in a timely manner.  The online standings will be used for the seeding of the tournament.
  • In the event that inclement weather causes the cancellation of games we will do our best to not change the tournament dates.  Regular season games may be rescheduled for any day other than Wednesday.  Games will be rescheduled on the first available date.
  • PSO will be closed on April 5th.  Monday games for that week will be scheduled on April 9th.

Fees

  • $55 league fee includes at least 9 games, a game jersey, and t-shirts for the Championship team.

Rules

Click here for the Adult Basketball rules (rules may be modified up to the start of the league).  Foul language and poor attitudes will not be tolerated in this league.  Issues of this nature could cause you to be removed from the league without a refund.  Teams who do not meet together following the game to discuss the devotion provided by the league will be removed from the league without a refund.  Only players on your official roster will be allowed to play.

Leadership

A League Coordinator is needed for each league to oversee the league, the draft and provide consistent communication with the PSO staff on any issues that arise during the season.
A Team Captain is needed for each team who will be responsible for:

  • working with the League Coordinator and other Team Captains to draft the teams.
  • communicating with the players about the schedule, rules, and any information put out by the PSO staff or the League Coordinator.
  • coordinating the substitution pattern during games.
  • leading the post game "Iron Time" devotion.
  • leading the prayer (or enlisting a member of his team to lead the prayer) with both teams prior to the start of the game (Home team captain is responsible for the pre-game prayer).
  • enlisting someone (other than a player in the game) to keep either the scorebook or the clock for each game.  Their should be both a scorebook keeper and a clock keeper (one provided by each team's captain) for each game at the score table at least 10 minutes prior to the game.
  • enlisting a prayer partner (can be a player on the team or someone else) who will commit to praying for the team and the league and coordinate prayer requests for that team.

The League Coordinator and the Team Captains are usually players in the league.  Anyone interested in being a League Coordinator or Team Captain should contact Brad Freeman at bfreeman@prestonwood.org.

Team Draft & Captains

Team Captains in the non-competitive leagues will meet on the practice night to adjust teams.  Teams will be drafted by the PSO staff prior to that night.  Adjustments to those teams can be made by captains in order to keep teams even.  Captains will be supplied with each player's age, height, playing experience, and position.  They will also be instructed on the format for game day devotions.  If you would like to be a Team Captain, please contact Brad Freeman by email at bfreeman@prestonwood.org.

     1.  Your age.
     2.  Your height.
     3.  Your highest level of experience (i.e.  Rec, High School, Small College, Major College, Pro)
     4.  Your preferred position (i.e. Point Guard, Guard, Forward, Post)
     5.  Playing partner (you may pick one person to be on your team.  That person must also pick you.
     6.  Jersey size.

We do not need a lot of extra information in this box.  As an example, I would list my information as follows:
43, 6'0, Small College, Guard, Team Mate: Mark Aguirre, XXL jersey
