Weight & Cardio Room
Etiquette
-
Put your weights away after use. This includes
dumbbells and plates. If you move equipment (benches) please
put them back where they belong.
-
Share your equipment. Most
of the time when you are working out you will be in-between sets;
this is the perfect time for someone else to use the equipment.
Let people work in with you.
-
Wipe down the machines after use.
Can you imagine walking to a machine and finding it
covered with the previous person's sweat? If you happen to
drip all over a piece of equipment, wipe it down using the
disinfectant and paper towels provided by the SFC. Also, it is
helpful to use a towel to separate yourself from the machine while
you make use of it.
-
Don't drop the weights. Please
don't drop weights from a high elevation for any reason. It's
not good for the weights or the floor. Please use collars on
free weight bar bells.
-
Chat later. It's a small gym. That
five-minute conversation you're having with a buddy between sets
extends your time on that piece of equipment a great deal.
Others may be waiting to use it.
-
During the busy time, don't do supersets that require you
to use two or three pieces of equipment unless others can work in.
Please don't monopolize the equipment.
-
Be attentive. Watch to see who is using what piece
of equipment. There is nothing worse than going for a drink of
water and having someone clean your weights off because they didn't
know someone was using the equipment. At the same time, please
do not do a set, walk off for 5 minutes and come back expecting to
still have your weights loaded when others need the equipment.
-
Offer to spot people. If you see someone doing a
heavy lift and he or she doesn't have a spotter, be prepared to
assist if they fatigue enough to put themselves in danger.
Spotters are required on free weight bench presses and free weight
squats. Additionally, please use the clamps when using the
barbell.
